The state of Kerala has made rich and varied contributions to the cultural heritage of India. Kerala culture has been an integral part of the mainstream of an Indian culture. An important factor that has helped the process of cultural synthesis in Kerala is its peculiar geographical position. A long and narrow territorial belt lying between the Arabian Sea and Western Ghats. Kerala possesses all the distinctive features of a natural geographical unit.
The contribution made by Kerala to the theory and practice of ayurveda, the indigenous system of medical treatment, is substantial. The Ashtangahridaya system expanded and developed by the Kerala physicians. The celebrated Ashta vaidyans of Kerala are still active. The Kerala ayurveda physicians have practiced with a high degree of success in Panchakarma treatment from very early days. Kerala ayurvedic physicians are expertise in the Dhara, Pizhichil, Navarakizhi, Uzhichil and Sirovasti forms of treatment.
Ayurveda is not a mere system of treating illnesses, it being the science of life, a wisdom to help people stay vibrant and brimming with health. Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences. Together, they show a way to live naturally and achieve radiant physical, mental and spiritual health. As one of the most important spiritual and healing traditions of the world. Ayurvedic and yogic scriptures describe the ethics and daily, monthly and yearly practices of a healthy life. This includes a healthy diet and exercise as well as the use of breath, senses, emotions and mind. The approach to meditation provides a step by step guide to complete peace and harmony.
The daily Ayurvedic routine allows you to gradually develop a healthier lifestyle. While Ayurveda increases your prana (life energy) through diet, herbs, oils and minerals the practice of yoga and meditation teaches you to stabilize that prana in a more direct way. That is through posture, breathing exercise, deep relaxation, and meditation.
